Weeks later, the storm uncovered an ancient treasure buried beneath his fields. The villagers were amazed and congratulated him on his newfound wealth. “What great luck!” they exclaimed. But again, the farmer replied, “Maybe so.”

Eventually, the farmer’s son was drafted into the army due to the newfound wealth and status of his family. The villagers mourned for him, expressing their sorrow over his bad luck. The farmer once more replied, “Maybe so.”

But as he observed the sun blazing down upon him from above, he realized that even kings do not possess true power over nature. He wished to be the sun instead and was transformed into a radiant star in the sky.

As time passed, he became aware of how easily clouds could obscure him from view. He then wished to be a cloud and experienced life as one. Yet again, he recognized that strong winds could disperse clouds at will. Curiously, he wished to be the wind.

Finally bored with this existence, he decided to become a stone instead—an immovable object. While resting as stone beneath a mountain, he heard the sound of something chipping away at him—it was a stone cutter.
