Capital One app keeps logging me out: how to fix on a Chromebook

If the Capital One app keeps logging you out on your Chromebook, the problem is almost always a browser storage or sign-in session issue, not your account. On a Chromebook, the app experience is tied closely to Chrome and stored site data, so clearing the bad session and signing in again usually fixes it. This article shows you the fastest way to stop the loop and keep Capital One signed in.

Quick fix

The single most likely fix is to clear the Capital One site data in Chrome, then sign in again without blocking cookies. On a Chromebook, the app can keep dumping you back to the login screen when Chrome is holding a corrupted session or when third-party cookies are blocked. Once you reset that site data and allow cookies for Capital One, the logout loop usually stops.

Why this happens

On a Chromebook, the Capital One app often runs through the browser or a browser-backed sign-in flow. If Chrome has stale cookies, broken cache files, or a saved session that no longer matches Capital One’s login token, the app signs you in and immediately forgets who you are. Privacy settings such as blocked cookies, aggressive site-data cleanup, or extensions that interfere with banking pages can create the same problem.

How to fix it

  1. Clear Capital One’s saved site data.
Open Chrome on your Chromebook and go to chrome://settings/siteData. In the search box, type capitalone. Remove every Capital One entry you see, including any related login or banking subdomains. This clears the broken session that keeps forcing you out.

  2. Allow cookies for Capital One.
In Chrome, open chrome://settings/cookies. Make sure you are not blocking all cookies. Then add capitalone.com to the “Sites that can always use cookies” list and check the box to include third-party cookies on that site. Capital One’s login flow needs these cookies to keep your session active.

  3. Turn off extensions that touch web pages.
Open Chrome and go to chrome://extensions/. Disable ad blockers, privacy blockers, password tools, and script blockers one by one. Then sign in to Capital One again. If the logout problem stops, leave the interfering extension off for banking.

  4. Remove saved Capital One passwords and sign in fresh.
Open Chrome settings and go to the Password Manager. Delete the saved Capital One entry, then close Chrome completely and reopen it. Sign in manually instead of autofilling the old login. A bad saved credential record can keep pulling you back into a broken session.

  5. Update ChromeOS and restart the Chromebook.
Open Settings, select About ChromeOS, then run the update check and install anything pending. Restart the Chromebook after the update finishes. A current browser and system session clears out stuck background processes that keep web apps from staying signed in.

  6. Use Capital One in a fresh Chrome profile.
Click your profile picture in Chrome and choose Add to create a new browser profile. Sign in to Capital One only in that fresh profile and avoid restoring old browser data. If the app works there, your original Chrome profile has corrupted cookies, extensions, or sync data that need to be cleaned up.

Common error messages

“Your session has expired”
This means Capital One is rejecting the stored login session and sending you back to the sign-in screen.

“We’re unable to verify your browser”
This means Chrome is blocking or damaging the cookies and browser data Capital One needs to recognize your device.

“Something went wrong. Please try again”
This is the generic message for a broken sign-in flow, bad site data, or an extension interfering with the page.

When this means it’s a bigger problem

If Capital One keeps logging you out even in a fresh Chrome profile with cookies allowed and all extensions turned off, the problem is no longer on your Chromebook. That signal points to an account-side security flag, a service outage, or a device trust issue that only Capital One support can clear from their end.
